Saturday morning practice at Exhibition Place, Toronto. I had positioned myself between pit lane and the track, looking right into turn 11, the fastest turn on any temporary roadcourse on the Indycar circuit. The cars move at 150+mph in that turn, and there is no way to track them with the autofocus when using a long lens. I used a well proven method: "film is cheap - shoot a lot" to make sure I would get a few usable images from that 30 minute session. The exciting part was the bumpy pagement on the inside of the turn, causing some cars to bottom out and send sparks and dust out the back. Ribeiro ran clean this time around, but one can see how the forces are tearing on the left rear tire as the car is going left. I captured Andre in the shallow depth of field I had available - with the best focus right on his rear view mirrors. You can see his yellow helmet in both mirrors!
