Raceday at Mid Ohio. With almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside temperature and a dropped clutch, the Goodyears on Jimmy Vasser's car have no chance but to melt instantly... I was coming from turn 6 to the pits, hoping to get a few closeups in the Galles pit, when I realized that the race officials had changed their mind about the photo location at the exit of the pits: before the race it was off-limits, but now there were 10 photographers holding long lenses. I peeled out my teleconverter and got in line. It helps to be 6'2" for this job - taller is even better! One of the most annoying things at the tracks is that the track owners or event directors determine where media is allowed to go, and they modify these rules permanently. Some tracks are really restrictive, while others (Elkhart Lake and Laguna Seca) allow so much, one sometimes wonders how they can get insurance...

Tech Info: 300/f2.8,1.4x teleconverter, f7.1, 1/250sec, EOS-1N, handheld, Fuji Super G 100asa
