At Mid Ohio I made friends with this fireman from Schaumburg, Il;linois: Nickname "Turtle". He is a legend at the track, adn I was lucky to
bump into him when i was waiting in the Galles pits for my fist chance at shooting a hot pitstop up close, leaning over the
wall with my wideangle, right next to the fuel hoses. The person right below me at tha extinguisher was Turtle, and he instantly
seemed to like me, because I "asked" if I could do this. He said that a lot of the other photographers just
assume they can do whatever they want... I got to lean against him as he was right above the wall aiming his water
at the fuel nozzle of the car, while I was holding my caera over the top of everything. After the stop he told me the story
of his life - how he got the cool helmet from the Autoclub of Monte Carlo, that he is the honorory memeber of their
safety crew at Formula One events over there, and how Ken Tyrell invited him to the race in Portugal this summer. Not sure how
much he made up, but if only a fraction of his stories are true, this guy is a walking racing legend. The image really could
have used fill-flash, but at Mid Ohio I didn't dare to bring my flash to the pits during the race. At Laguna I realized
that I was the only one who did NOT bring it...
